SingSteps is owned by a husband and wife who are passionate about music and our youth. In 2012, Wes and Laine Cryder noticed a shortage of musical programs serving infants, toddlers and preschoolers in the south of Pittsburgh. Further, there were hardly any structured learning activities for both the adults and children to do at the same time that didn't cost a fortune. The solution? They went and were trained to teach one of the coolest family music programs, one that is taught worldwide, and brought it to Pleasant Hills and Elizabeth to share with other families in the area. SingSteps may have started out as a vision, but is a reality as we celebrate four years of classes.
What is Music Together®?
Music Together is an internationally recognized music program for children from birth through age 5-- and the grownups who love them. By emphasizing actual music-making experiences, we introduce children to the pleasures of producing music instead of passively consuming it from iTunes or TV. We're very high-touch. Face to face, heart to heart, voice to voice-- for a truly bonding and enriching experience. We're research-based, down to earth, accessible and all about having a good time!
What are mixed-age/family classes?
From babyhood through preschool years, Music Together nurtures each child's natural musicality. During family classes, grownups learn songs, chants, geatures and dances together with their children and then re-create the fun at home with our recordings and songbooks. The classes are mixed-age because younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this awesome family music experience.
Why should I enroll with SingSteps?
Our goal at SingSteps is to offer a unique experience for children and their families/caregivers; an experience that will yield positive effects as a child works towards 'basic music competency'. Research has shown that 90% of critical brain development occurs within the first five years of a child's life. Wes and Laine Cryder understand how to foster this development using the Music Together curriculum and are able to help children and adults build quality relationships in a musical environment. "SingSteps offers a comfortable, fun-filled opportunity to help my daughter develop through music and movement. The SingSteps teachers are energetic, and help to engage all of the children by encouraging them to sing along, dance, and move about during class.
"Although my child is too young to sing along, she enjoys her time in class by playing with the instruments, watching the movement of others in class and listening to mommy sing!"

Meet the Teachers
A 2002 graduate of South Allegheny High School, Laine Cryder earned a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and completed the Early Childhood Education Certification Program from California University of Pennsylvania. Upon receiving her Bachelor's in 2007, Laine was hired by The Early Learning Institute as a Teacher in both an Early Intervention classroom and a typical preschool and Pre-K classroom. She taught until 2015 when she became a stay-at-home mother and "full time" teacher of the Music Together program for SingSteps.
Laine is also the Acting Secretary of a local elementary school PTA. Together, Wes and Laine have two children.
A 2001 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Wes is a licensed Music Together Center Director, a registered Music Together Teacher and the Owner of SingSteps. Wes has lived a very musical life. In 4th grade, he started playing the trumpet and continued in concert, symphonic, marching and jazz through high school. During college, he picked up the guitar and was a singer and songwriter in a local rock group. In 2009, Wes began to provide DJ services which evolved into the creation of One Left Standing Entertainment LLC in 2012, where Wes provides his award-winning DJ and Photo Booth services for weddings, events and parties in Western Pennsylvania.
In 2013, Wes and Laine successfully completed the Music Together Teacher Training Workshop and SingSteps was officially recognized as a licensed Music Together center.
In 2016, Laine and Wes spent 25 hours being trained by the amazing Dr. Lili Levinowitz, co-author of Music Together®. Lili is a national authority on early childhood music and her research articles appear in both professional journals and popular magazines. We are extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to make music with Lili and hope the wisdom imparted in us can be shared with the families in our SingSteps program.
Wes is also a board member of the West Jefferson Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Public Relations officer of the East Monongahela Sportsmen's Club.
